History
The Emerging Artists Trust (EAT) is a charitable trust established to support film and theatre practitioners in the Wellington region, encouraging the development of high quality creative work through a grants scheme and a Mentoring programme.EAT supports new artists taking the first step toward establishing a sustainable career in the arts, and artists transitioning from one discipline to another.EAT is investing in the early experiences of Wellington’s future film and theatre artists. The long-term effect of such support results in a strong local network that in turn, creates an ever-expanding pool of opportunities for young and established artists alike. In the first year EAT Grants were given on the basis of the potential quality and ambition of proposed projects. Grant recipients drove exciting projects, which have been successful in a variety of ways. See success stories.EAT opens film and theatre networks to new practitioners not solely through funding but through mentoring also.EAT’s current focus is the Mentoring Programme. The Programme matches emerging and transitioning artists with industry professionals for advice and guidance on specific areas of their projects and careers. It is a structured process where the Mentors and Mentees work toward agreed objectives, and the Mentors are paid a fee for their time.

A mentor provides … wit, plus a reassuring confidant.
